Sudan is one of Africa's biggest gold producers and one of its most volatile markets. We trade there only when we can do so lawfully, safely and with a documented chain of custody, and we stop when we cannot.

01Sudan
The goldfields
Sudanese gold comes from the Arabian–Nubian Shield under the Red Sea Hills and the desert east of the Nile. Artisanal and small-scale production dominates, historically organised through the state mineral resources company and licensed traders.
02Sudan
Our approach
Sudan is subject to sanctions and to periods of armed conflict. We screen every counterparty against UK, EU, US and UN lists, apply enhanced checks on origin and ownership, and suspend activity when conditions do not allow us to meet our own standard. We do not deal with anyone connected to an armed group.
When conditions permit, we buy from licensed traders with documented origin, assay in-country or at destination, and export through recognised channels with full customs paperwork.
