About the house

A London desk with its boots on African ground.

We trade gold and precious metals, and develop mining and exploration projects, across the DRC, Uganda, Kenya, Gabon, South Africa, Guinea, Sudan and South Sudan.

01Who we are

Two ends of one chain.

Physical gold moves along a chain that starts at a pit or a mill in Africa and ends in a refinery vault in Switzerland, the Gulf or London. Most of the value is captured wherever African metal meets the international market, and historically that point has been a long way from the producer.

We exist to shorten the distance. From London we bring what the far end of the chain requires. Bullion market access, banking and trade finance, benchmark pricing and paperwork that satisfies a compliance officer. From our operations on the continent we bring what producers require. Fair terms, fast settlement and a buyer who shows up.

Trading is the core. Mining and exploration extend it upstream, so that more of the metal we sell in London is metal we helped bring out of the ground, with the licence holder as our partner rather than our supplier.

02How we work

Four commitments.

The tests we apply to ourselves before asking a partner to trust us.

  1. 01

    Partnership over presence

We do not try to replace the people who know a market. We work alongside licensed producers, local buyers, assayers and logistics operators, and we treat those relationships as the business itself.

  2. 02

    Transparent by default

Pricing formulas, discounts and settlement terms are written down before anything is weighed. A partner should be able to check every number we give them.

  3. 03

    Compliant without exception

The OECD framework, regional certification and refinery requirements apply in full in every market. Where conditions do not allow compliant trading, we do not trade.

  4. 04

    Commitments that hold

The name is the standard. Terms agreed are terms honoured, on price, on timing and on the things we said we would do for a site after the first consignment.

03The name

Metal is metal. The agreement is everything.

Two bars of the same fineness are indistinguishable. What tells one supplier from the next is whether the commitments behind the metal hold. On origin, on price, on timing, and on what was promised to the people who dug it out.

We chose the name because it describes the only thing we really sell. Anyone can find gold in Africa. Very few can deliver it to a London refinery with every promise along the way kept.

04Governance

Who answers to whom.

MiningAccord Ltd is headquartered in London, where the desk, finance, compliance and the market relationships sit. Each country is run by an in-country team responsible for sourcing, partners, assay, export administration and logistics, reporting to London.

Compliance reports separately from trading. It owns onboarding, the risk assessment of every counterparty and site, sanctions screening and the decision to continue, suspend or walk away. The desk cannot overrule it.
